Whenever Injustice, Untruth, Violence reach their peak, He incarnates to restore ‘Dharma’ by transforming the wicked with His divine love and profound teachings.
| What is Dharma?|
Dharma is the moral path; the moral path is the bliss (Ananda). Dharma is characterized by holiness, peace, truth and fortitude. Dharma is yoga, union, merger; it is truth (Satya). Its attributes are justice, sense control, sense of humour, love, dignity, goodness, meditation, sympathy, non-violence, such is the Dharma that persists through the ages. It is the highest discipline and the most profitable.
To re establish Dharma God incarnated as Lord Sri Krishna in Dwapara Yuga. He is the embodiment of Love. His name consists of five letters – K,R,I,S,N,A which represent Pancha Bhutas (Five elements), Pancha Pranas (Five life forces), Pancha Kosas(Five life sheats). Krishna is interpreted as Karshati Iti Krishna (Krishna is the plougher). That is, Krishna is one who ploughs the field of heart and sows the seeds of love in it. Krushyati Iti Krishna (because He imparts bliss, He is called Krishna). Thus, divinity of Krishna can be perceived in every place and activity.
The very purpose of this Avatar is to show the entire mankind the right way to live. In this Avatar, the most important and precious landing place or stage is GITA BODHA. Gita teaches Arjuna to develop certain qualities that help the practice of the Atmic Dharma. The Dharmic way of life is the road to Self-Realisation, which when is the purpose of life. This leads very dear to Lord, when it is followed sincerely. But who reverse this Dharmic way to immortality and completely engage themselves with faith, making the God the ultimate goal, are exceedingly dear to God.
Gita prescribes the Karma marga, the Jnana marga and the Bhakthi marga as the primary path. But the real message of Gita is to be got from the first word of the first sloka Dharma and the last word of the last sloka Mama. Mama Dharma- each individual has to act up to his duty. That is the lesson of Gita. At various levels of life Brahmacharya, Grihasta, Vanaprasta and Sanyasa Dharmas are prescribed for each and they should not be mixed up. These are also called as Ashramas which prescribes the way of life.
The Gita starts with the opening word Dharmakshetra followed by Kurukshetra. One’s Karmakshetra or field of activities should be saturated with Dharma. Dharma should be the guiding principle of all our activities in day-to-day life, our hopes and aspirations and in fact our very breaths till the very end of our life.
Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba says that Gita is a text book of Dharma in all its aspects. It teaches about Manava Dharma. The Gita is meant to arouse our divine consciousness, to realize our own reality, forgetful of fleeting world and the pandering of the senses. Our beloved Swami says, The Gita is a boat which takes man across from the self imposed state of bondage to the freedom which is his nature and also says to study the Gita is to learn the art of swimming across the sea of delusion.
In Gita Lord Sri Krishna urges Arjuna to engage himself with Swadharma. The entire Gita harps on Sadhana or Yoga. In this connection, our Swami says, man has to come into this Karmakshetra only to engage himself in activity that is Swadharma. That is the teaching of the Gita, its fundamental lesson. Gita ordains for man Discipline and Duties.
In the Bhakthi Yoga, Sri Krishna mentions about cultivation of two qualities. 1. For one’s elevation in moral and spiritual scale. 2. That enables one to be a very useful member of the society contributing to the evolution of a healthy community. One should take praise and blame alike, be completely dependent on God’s grace and full of devotion for God. One should practice these principles with intense love and deep commitment. He also mentions to be ever engaged in the welfare of all and to qualify himself for His grace.
Lord Krishna enjoins Arjuna and through him humanity at large, to constantly engage in action surrendering the fruits of such action to Him not expecting any results from them. Our Swami says, renunciation of all attachment to the self and the performance of all acts in a spirit of worshipful non-attachment leads to God. With great immense love, care and concern advises to give up all Dharmas, surrender to me, do not grieve. I shall liberate you from the consequences of all your actions.
So Lord Sri Krishna became "Jagath Guru”(i.e, which takes birth and vanishes is Jagath). He became (the first Guru) closest friend, teacher to all creatures. He removed the ignorance, showed the right path and taught the right procedure to entire Jagath and became first Guru of whole Jagath.
